Maybe you should move to Massachusetts. Last February, a state Appeals Court ruled that judges must hear direct testimony from a “mature minor” when considering whether the minor may refuse life-saving medical treatment. Before this verdict, judges could merely be informed of a minor’s opinion.

The police make arrests and write tickets but they do not decide if you are guilty. Only judges have that power. A judge in Virginia threw out a case against a Virginia Student ticketed for carrying an open container of alcohol, when the student’s attorney proved that the open-container law was invalid.

I am a firm believer in individual rights. A person should be free to engage in any activity which does not cause harm, physically or collaterally, to another person. It is not the place of the government, or any other person or group of persons, to forbid him activity which might cause damage to himself.

A judge sentenced a 14-year old person who admitted to firing a gun at his principal to 19 years in prison, which is the maximum sentence for attempted murder. Prosecutors said that the person shot a .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol at the principal at the beginning of the school day.

A 15-year-old male student in Springfield, Oregon fatally shot two students and wounded 18 others. The assailant opened fire in his school’s cafeteria and was eventually wrestled to the ground by a fellow student. The assailant will be tried as an adult.
