News story describes Mahmoud Khalil as a resident and about to be deported! Lesson: ‘Residents’ can get deported. Residents are not citizens or nationals. Resident means visiting! State nationals or state citizens are DOMICILED on (not in) one of the 50 states. Never a resident, despite the K-12 lies.
Resident is short for ‘resident alien’. See 2nd screenshot below of elementary-law book.
To be a resident of Wyoming is to say one is visiting Wyoming. By the way, they also assume thou is domiciled on Washington DC where federal govt has powers not limited by the enumerated list in the Constitution.
The label “U.S. Citizen” is no better! This means federal citizen who is–thou guessed it–domiciled on Washington, DC.
State citizens or state nationals are domiciled on (not in) one of the 50 (nation) states such as New Mexico or Maine.
We are non-resident to the federal govt! For those who have gains that comes from the federal govt, there is a tax form to ‘make a return’ of a portion of those gains and that form is for non-resident aliens, which is me and likely thee. The 1040 NR. https://irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-1040-nr
Most of us don’t receive any gains from the federal govt so there is no need to ‘make a return’, but for those who might work for the federal govt or use federal land for profit, the 1040NR is the form to use!
