They want your money, not your brain

“So not only are truants missing out educationally and socially, we lose money, too,” said Ebron, a clinical social worker.We picked up this quote from an article about a new truant policy in Georgia. Whenever government school officials talk about truancy, they usually claim that their primary concern is the welfare of the students. The quote above suggests otherwise. Government school administrators and teachers really care about money.

When you miss a certain number of school days, your government school does not receive thousands of dollars in state funding. To force you to attend school and thereby prevent a financial loss, the school uses the courts to fine your parents and to threaten you with jail. That’s like a grocery store hiring the police to force you to shop at their store.
